Sigh...

According to an article by the LA Times today, California State Parks are closing. What no one seems to know is how many and which parks. We'll just have to wait and see. I guess I could move to Colorado and do altitude training...nah, that sounds hard.

I got some jalapeno peppers and dried figs at the farmers market over the weekend. The peppers are delicious in everything from last nights grilled salmon and spinach salad to tonights veggie burgers. The figs are good on their own but add something nice to fruit smoothies as well...speaking of which. I think I'll have one right now.

Hey Dave, Perhaps you would like to try Utah for some altitude training. You'd be welcome to stay with us and there's the added bonus that I have successfully fed several of your in-laws so I've been broken into some major quantity cooking!--Julie

Food? How did you know that would get my attention! I would love to do some running in Utah...it also looks like near perfect mountain biking terrain.

What can I say, you have a reputation! NEAR perfect!?! There are a lot of places that are mountain biking trails that are absolutely amazing. Slick Rock in Moab is a must for any serious mountain biker but there are many other places as equally challenging/breath taking. Pre-children Alan and I biked a lot. Not so much right now but when the season in my life returns I plan to hit the hills with a vengeance. As far as trail running is concerned there are places right here that might make you consider moving. However your tradition of cooling off in the ocean would have to be changed a bit to taking a dip in snow pack run-off mountain rivers. Brrrrr.

Mountain biking is something I admire from sharing the trails with them in Southern CA. I know I could get really into it and it would make for great cross training. The biggest limiting factor is the up front bike and gear cost.

Those rivers would be COLD! Though I think it would be worth it and fun for the sake of being able to tell the story about it later.
